Vision

Electric cars, electric scooters and electric bikes should be available to everyone. It shouldn’t matter where you live or what time of day you need a ride: supply should never run short. We imagine a city free of traffic-induced emissions and traffic jams. A city with more room to develop and grow in time with its residents – a city in which cars no longer take up so much of our precious, shared space. A city where we all want to live. This is the emmy vision.

WHO’S BEHIND THOSE HELMETS?

These past few years have been some kind of exciting. But the best is yet to come! Take a look at our team page to see just who’s wearing the helmets (err hats???) at emmy.

We believe in a future of urban transportation and mobility in which no one needs to own their own car.

Company History

2014

One day in a park, the idea for an electric-scooter sharing service is born. Scooters are a great way to navigate big-city traffic, but only on occasion, not often enough to justify having one of your own. So, why not share them? Participation in the Open Innovation Slam, a European entrepreneurship competition, moves the idea along: emmy’s three founders (Gründerteam) win the competition, securing their place in the Climate KIC Accelerator program.

2015

To beat out potential competitors, things have to get rolling – fast. In January, the first prototype is completed; in March, a test phase with 5 scooters begins; and in June, a round of seed funding is cinched. Emmy can now enter the Berlin market with a squad of 150 scooters. Then known by the name eMio, these 150 red scooters quickly come to be known around town.

2016

The year kicks off with participation in the Deutsche Bahn’s accelerator program, exploring potential collaboration and partnerships within this corporate network. The team successfully makes it through its first season, the new scooter sharing service is well received, and ridership numbers are steadily rising. The first step of expanding the service follows. Together with the utilities company Stadtwerke Stuttgart as local partner, the stella-sharing service is introduced to Stuttgart.

2017

A further round of funding is secured in February in order to boost expansion efforts. The team is now able to significantly increase its scooter stock in Berlin and enter the markets of other cities. For legal reasons, the brand name is changed to emmy in March. Emmy scooters have officially arrived!

2018

emmy scooters continue to take over the streets of Germany’s big cities. Another round of financing makes an expansion of the fleet of scooters in Hamburg, Munich, and Berlin possible. But not only scooters are on the rise: emmy continues to add new members to its team.
